Naked Graciousness

1. Naked Graciousness ( big sketch) 2. Naked Graciousness ( small sketch ) 3. Medium Preferences 1. "Naked Graciousness (big sketch)", is not a satisfactory piece to me. It is my first piece, after a long period of not creating male figure drawings. I think the proportions are clunky, but it represents my style overall. I could have adjusted the proportions, using a pencil and eraser. But, pencil drawing still does a disservice to my spontaneity and looseness. I cannot draw or sketch with a pencil, without realizing the privilege of erasing disliked lines. This piece also represents one of my first attempts, after a long break, from using gray brush pens, for shading skin tones.  2. "Naked Graciousness (small sketch)", was quickly done, after I decided to return to creating male figures. I looked through my book of  "Paul Cadmus's Male Figure Drawings" for inspiration. And I searched online for "dad body" types of men. I am really inspired by...

The Body Machine Series no. 66-70

Within this set, I remember having to push through a condition during the period, in which some of these were created. It was a depressive episode, triggered by stress from work related issues. And I was continuing to struggle within a relationship with my then partner, that was taking its toll on my mental health. I felt discouraged from the amount of fatigue that weighed heavily on me. Although I was deeply frustrated with outer influences, discouraging me from creating when arriving home, it was a reminder of coping strategies that drawing provided. This series was inspired by sexual frustration, and the need for expression of such issues to aid as a safe, therapeutic outlet for me in many ways. The Body Machine series no. 56 - 60

1. Body Machine # 56 2. Body Machine # 57 3. Body Machine # 58 4. Body Machine # 59 5. Body Machine # 60 It seems like I probably enjoyed the sequence of these five pieces. It was a challenge that I welcomed, with having to create this physical position from different perspectives. I know expressing the intimacy of the scene in ink washes, was especially important and rewarding. 1. Body Machine # 56, is the intro to this erotic set. I wanted each scene to flow, as if one were watching an actual film or video. It was the kind of scenes I wanted to see on a screen.  2. Body Machine # 57, actually excites me, with the way it turned out visually and technically. The position of the probing hands, exploring and caressing his partner is captured very well. This is another example of a good contrast in texture and value, with my chosen medium. 3. Body Machine # 58, was interesting to position the legs and hands anatomically. Sometimes I place myself in certain positions, to make sure the ...

The Body Machine Series No. 46 - 50

Body Machine # 46 Body Machine # 47 Body Machine # 48 Body Machine # 49 Body Machine # 50 This was another experimental set, in which I developed various textures and values. I took any approach that was thought of, with the medium choice of ballpoint pen and ink wash. It was also based on the mood at any particular time. Many periods were after work, and depending on my day, could determine how a drawing would be approached. 1. Body Machine # 46, was my wanting to work with a combination of crosshatching and wash layers, in the shadowed areas. The ballpoint pen can be very versatile, depending on pressure applied to the paper, with the point. This is another visual angle of the session between the bodybuilder and his new sexual interest.  2. Body Machine # 47, is one of my favorites from the series, after currently viewing the piece again. I like the angle achieved. It heightens the eroticism of what is to come between these two. The butt, legs and thick bare soles of his feet rea...
